Ad-Aware 2008 is a free for personal use tool to remove spyware/adware/crapware.  Like anti-virus software, it is not effective if it is not up to date.

Follow these screen captures to update, run, and remove spyware with the Ad-Aware 2007 program.

Click "Update"

New definitions will download



Click OK when the new definitions download is complete



Click the Scan tab on the left and choose the type of scan.  Generally the Smart Scan completes quicker than the Full Scan at the expense of missing some items not in the usual locations.  Unless there is a particular folder or reason for the scan the Custom Scan is the least preferred method.  After making your scan choice, click Scan.



The Performing Scan window shows the status of the scan



When the scan is complete, select the Critical Objects tab.  Right click and choose "Select All Objects".  Click Remove.
Repeat for the Privacy Objects tab.
When the Critical Objects and Privacy Objects tabs show (0) your system is clean.


Notes:  If there is more than one user account on the computer, the scan should be run with each account.
